摘要

Community natural resources management (CNRM) has emerged as a promising approach to address the challenges posed by environmental degradation and climate change, while bolstering the resilience of communities around the world. This chapter presents a comprehensive review of the theoretical underpinnings and practical implications of CNRM in fostering resilience at the local and regional levels. This chapter highlights the fundamental principles of CNRM, emphasizing the collaborative and participatory nature of its implementation. It explores how CNRM engages local communities in the sustainable management of their natural resources, integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific practices to ensure long-term environmental sustainability. Furthermore, the chapter examines the pivotal role of CNRM in enhancing community resilience. By empowering local stakeholders to actively participate in resource governance, CNRM fosters social cohesion, strengthens community networks, and builds adaptive capacity. The chapter also investigates case studies from diverse ecological contexts, illustrating how CNRM initiatives have mitigated the impact of environmental shocks, such as extreme weather events and resource depletion, thus fortifying communities against future vulnerabilities. The chapter delves into the multifaceted challenges faced by CNRM, including issues of governance, equity, and the incorporation of marginalized groups. It addresses the importance of engaging with policymakers and institutions to foster an enabling environment for CNRM’s successful implementation and scaling. The review concludes by proposing a set of best practices and recommendations for optimizing the effectiveness of CNRM in bolstering community resilience. It highlights the significance of continuous learning, adaptive management, and robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms to support the long-term sustainability of CNRM initiatives. Ultimately, this chapter advocates for a transformative shift towards community-based natural resource management approaches, recognizing their potential to strengthen community resilience, conserve biodiversity, and harmonize human interactions with the natural world amid an era of environmental uncertainty.
