Strategies for Maintaining Clean Air Amid Calls for Intensive Industrialization in Africa

The chapter aims to discuss the strategies for maintaining clean air amid calls for intensive industrialization. This study comes against the background that most African cities have been largely characterized by industrialization process since the nineteenth century in as much as developing countries are trying to implement carbon air prevention methods, policies, and acts. Factors such as rapid urbanization, climate change, poor planning, and center–local relationships affect the industrialization process in the African context. The chapter argues that maintaining clean air amid calls for intensive industrialization is a major problem since most African countries are undergoing modernization stages. African countries tamed dump sites by the west and poor planning. This study noted that most urban local authorities have failed to provide policies for clean air due to other compounding factors like corruption, political leadership influence and decision, climate change, and poor planning choking the urban areas, leaving a trail of disasters. Results shows that clean air in the industrialization process is very difficult in the African context compared to other continents due to lack of policies, acts, resources, huge capital needed, and the implementation of the carbon air agreements being very difficult and lacks monitoring and evaluation after they have been discussed. The chapter uses documentary analysis and existing literature as research methodology. Emerging from the study and related literature is that the current problem of clean air needs a holistic approach that includes government authorities, private organizations, policymakers, and practitioners to come together in the planning, managing, and designing of new innovative ideas for clean air amid calls for industrialization in Africa.
