摘要

Partial meniscectomy for the treatment of meniscus tears is one of the most common procedures performed by orthopedic surgeons and the most common surgery in sports medicine. Meniscal repair became more popular once biomechanical studies demonstrated greater contact area and pressure in the postmeniscectomy state. In general, partial meniscectomy can provide relief of pain and swelling and early return to sports. The main concern about this surgery is the increased likelihood to develop osteoarthrosis at mid- to long-term follow-up. For this reason, it is very important to treat each patient on an individual basis with careful consideration of their specific demographic factors, activity level, and goals.
