Elbow Interosseus Membrane Lesions

The interosseus membrane (IOM) is a complex ligament that is involved in the transverse and longitudinal stability of the forearm. The concept of the Forearm Unit, introduced by Soubeyrand in 2007, considers the proximal radio-ulnar joint (PRUJ), the IOM, and the distal radio-ulnar joint (DRUJ) as parts of a unique functional joint/unit. Each part is essential for stability and movements of the forearm. There are several patterns of injury that involve one or all lockers and different classifications described in literature. Lesions of the IOM are insidious injuries that may lead to very disabling outcomes if misdiagnosed and left untreated. Therefore, it is important to have a high level of suspicious in case of high-energy trauma of the forearm. There is general consensus about reconstruction of the interosseous membrane in chronic setting, but in acute lesions, this is still a debate.
