Lunotriquetral Ligament Injuries

Lunotriquetral ligamentous injuries represent a less common, but often underdiagnosed wrist pathology, often afflicting young athletes in contact sports. Low-grade injuries to the lunotriquetral ligament often present with vague ulnar-sided wrist pain and can improve with nonoperative measures. More severe injury patterns with complete disruption of the ligamentous complex, as well as extrinsic ulnar-sided wrist ligaments can lead to the development of dynamic or static volar intercalated segment instability. These injuries often need to be addressed surgically in the form of ligamentous repair or reconstruction with overall excellent outcomes.
