摘要

Psychoanalytic/Psychodynamic models of the mind help to explain the function and development of our unconscious thoughts and feelings. This chapter presents commonly used aspects of this model – the theories of Sigmund Freud, Ego Psychology, Object Relations Theory, Self Psychology, Attachment Theory, Mentalization-Based Theory, and Relational Theory. The historical context, basics of the model, scientific evidence supporting the model, and implications for diagnosis and treatment are offered for each. Finally, a vignette is included to help the reader to consider the use of the model in practice.
