Telepsychiatry
摘要
The practice of psychiatry through a technological medium such as telephone or other videoconferencing software has been incrementally gathering favor over the past half century, with feasibility, quality, and outcomes substantiated by research. The worldwide catastrophes of the 2020s saw rapid proliferation of the use of synchronous delivery for telemedical care. This furthered acceptance has required more virtual care and has shifted policy. This chapter explores the logistical challenges of starting a telepsychiatric practice and the nuances toward the delivery of psychiatric care through this method. In addition, the literature surrounding feasibility, strength, and limitations of telepsychiatry is examined; literature suggests that telepsychiatry is effective, produces equal results to face-to-face interactions in most clinic settings, and may be less costly in some ways than in-person care.
