Interventional Treatment of Benign Gynecologic Tumors
摘要
Benign gynecologic tumors are common in women, with uterine fibroids occurring in over 70% of women by age 50. Women with uterine fibroids present with abnormal uterine bleeding or bulk-related symptoms, which can be treated in a variety of ways, including medical therapy, uterine artery embolization (UAE), or surgery. Adenomyosis presents with abnormal uterine artery bleeding as well and is often treated with medical management, UAE, or surgery. UAE offers a minimally invasive uterine-sparing approach to therapy and has been demonstrated to be safe and effective in women for both uterine fibroids and adenomyosis. A thorough pre-procedure clinical evaluation is needed to counsel patients appropriately. UAE is often performed on an outpatient basis successfully if coupled with a detailed periprocedural symptom management care plan and post-procedure follow-up. Endometriosis is a common cause of pelvic pain in women and can be concomitant with other gynecologic processes. Establishing care with a gynecologist is essential for medical and surgical management of endometriosis; however, endometrioma cryoablation is highly effective and safe as treatment for painful endometriomas.
