Revolution of TAM

The chapter conducts an in-depth investigation of the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) through a comprehensive systematic review, offering profound insights into the TAM universe. Utilizing a concept-centric methodology, strict search criteria and parameters controlling the inclusion of representative body of evidence, this examination encompasses both a meta-review of TAM and a narrative review of primary studies. Classifying 23 emerged TAM-focused reviews and meta-analyses based on their investigative focus, the chapter examines studies on the core model, those exploring novel variables within TAM and reviews targeting diverse applications across contexts. Chronologically exploring and categorizing 127 primary studies within the landscape of TAM research, it discerns patterns across geographical and technological dimensions, offering a detailed understanding of the model’s extension and application. Synthesizing significant findings from analysed primary studies, the chapter provides a comprehensive analysis of various variables predicting all core constructs of TAM, including the determinants of its two key drivers of user acceptance — perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. This extensive exploration contributes to the ongoing revolution of TAM, solidifying its status as a leading established theory and a parsimonious yet powerful model for explaining, predicting and enhancing user acceptance in diverse technological deployments.
