Structured Fat Grafting for Correction of Facial Asymmetry

There are a multitude of conditions that can result in facial asymmetry. For many of these patients, the asymmetry affects multiple tissue planes from the underlying skeletal framework to the overlying soft tissue and the skin envelope. This may include patients with conditions such as hemifacial microsomia, Parry-Romberg disease, traumatic injury, and tumor resection with resultant contour deficiency and facial asymmetry. To address each of the components of facial asymmetry involves skeletal, soft tissue, and functional facial elements. The ability to restore volume and contours using soft tissue can camouflage skeletal components that may not be amenable to osseous reconstruction. This chapter will focus on fat grafting augmentation techniques to improve facial symmetry.
