Fungicide Management of Vegetable Disease

There have been a number of important reviews of fungicide use and fungicide resistance management in crop production over the past five decades, some of these reviews include vegetable production. This chapter is a summation of those reviews and other research and is intended to bring the reader up to the present. There are a number of important resources available online and in paper copy, each reader should be aware of. The first is Crop Data Management Systems, Inc. (CDMS) website (https://www.cdms.net/, as of June 25, 2024), which is a good source for all current US federal pesticide labels. However, registered fungicides, use rates, and labeled crops may vary by state, therefore stakeholders may need to consult with their local county agent, Extension Specialist, or crop consultant. Importantly, the trade names mentioned in this chapter are ones registered for use in the USA only. Additionally, products mentioned may go by another trade name in other countries. Secondly, there are fungicide recommendation guides available online and in print which inform commercial vegetable growers on the appropriate fungicides and fungicide rotations to use for pathogens that are common in the state or region. These recommendations are updated annually or biennially by university researchers and Cooperative Extension personnel and are the best resource of information for stakeholders. Finally, the Fungicide Resistance Action Committee (FRAC) website (https://www.frac.info/ as of June 25, 2024) was developed by CropLife International, an international consortium of industry personnel, experts, and researchers, whose goals are to share knowledge on fungicide resistance development and offer guidelines on fungicide use. Each year, the FRAC committee updates this information on their website and is a valuable resource.
