摘要

The purpose of this chapter is to discuss the rationale for proceeding to surgery in patients with different profiles of PHPT. The surgical approach is appropriate to consider in all patients with an established diagnosis of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) and should be recommended to patients with symptoms of hypercalcemia or target organ complications (e.g., nephrolithiasis, nephrocalcinosis, and overt bone disease) as well as to patients with asymptomatic PHPT who meet the criteria for surgery according to the last International guidelines.
