Early Modern Women Writers and Science

  • Whitney Sperrazza

摘要

What was the broad range of knowledges and practices scholars refer to as “early modern science”? How were women actively contributing to early modern science in all of its shifting formations? This entry takes up these questions to offer a history of science context through which to study early modern women’s writing. Organized around ways of knowing, rather than specific figures or fields of study, the entry provides readers with a lexicon of practices through which to understand women’s scientific work: observing, experimenting, and theorizing.
