Dorothy Burch (fl.1646) was the author of A Catechism of the Several Heads of the Christian Religion. Burch’s text, which arose from a dispute in her local parish, demonstrates how maternal catechesis could galvanize female authorship in early modern England. It also attests to the importance of attending to a sense of place when considering early modern women’s authorship.
