Whitrow, Joan

Joan Whitrow (c. 1631–1707) was a preacher and writer associated with the early Quaker movement. The main body of her work comprised a series of exhortations to King William III and Queen Mary II encouraging them to root out spiritual corruption and social inequality in their kingdoms. She also penned an account of her children’s deaths, which offered a vivid description of her unhappy domestic situation. She faced condemnation and eventually separated from the Quakers for the radical nature of her prophecy and writing.
