Veitch, Marion

Marion Veitch, also Vetch, daughter of James Fairlie and Eupham Kincaid, was baptized on December 20, 1639, in Holyrood Abbey. As a child, Veitch moved to the village of Lanark, and in 1664 she married a radical minister, William Veitch, and spent many years in exile (1671–88). He eventually became minister of Dumfries. She wrote a seventeen-thousand-word spiritual autobiography that demonstrated her appropriation of evangelical Presbyterian piety then influential in Scotland and the suffering attendant on pious activists.
