摘要

Margaret Roper (née More) (1505–1544) gained an international reputation for her erudition, setting a precedent for elite women in Tudor England and beyond. Contemporary evidence indicates that Roper composed letters, orations, and poetry in Latin, but most of these works have been lost. Nevertheless, a handful of her letters remain, as does her English translation of Erasmus’s treatise on the Lord’s prayer. This slender corpus has generated a lively scholarly conversation and established Roper as a figure of historical and literary significance.
