摘要

Elizabeth Freke (1642–1714) was an English autobiographer, poet, historian, and compiler of recipes. She is best known for the manuscript memoirs of her life composed between 1702 and 1714, which provide a detailed insight into the life and unhappy marriage of a provincial early modern gentlewoman. Freke also wrote biblical paraphrases, collected culinary and medicinal recipes, and curated a collection of geographical, historical, and medical extracts drawn from printed books in her large library.
