Davy, Sarah

Sarah Davy (née Roane) (c. 1635–1667) was from a family of middling status and spent at least part of her life in London. The little available information on her life comes from her only known text, Heaven Realiz’d or The Holy Pleasure of daily intimate Communion with God (1670). Davy was one of many women who wrote conversion narratives as a self-reflection and spiritual accounting and whose texts were later published as an exemplar for others. The text also provides a moving account of bereavement, anger, and isolation. Her description of her eventual return to faith through her love for another woman means her narrative offers a glimpse of a brief but close relationship between two women. Davy later married, although the text records no details about her husband.
