An unprecedented amount of writing in English, compared to any other point before in history, was published by women during the English Civil War era. This entry surveys the revolutionary years through key writers such as Katherine Philips, Elizabeth Poole, and Lady Eleanor Davies, and through women who described the lived experience of their faith, and so contributed to the religious and cultural life of the era.
