摘要

Lucy Hutchinson (née Apsley) (1620–1681) was long best known for Memoirs of the Life of Colonel Hutchinson, her biography of her husband John Hutchinson, a staunch Parliamentarian in the English Civil Wars who died in 1664 after imprisonment for alleged treason. In addition to an earlier draft of that work, she also composed many other writings in different genres, from theological treatises to a translation of Lucretius, lyrical poems, and the Genesis epic Order and Disorder. While most of her writings remained in manuscript during her lifetime, many are now coming into print.
