Design Approaches

A design approach defines the strategy for where to start and what to design first, based on how different parts of the design influence and interact with each other. Whether you are building a digital fabrication machine or are just thinking about adapting a machine, it is useful to have a design approach as a guideline. A machine may consist of many parts, and it’s often hard to tell where to start. In our experience simple design approaches consist of setting priorities and requirements, used to design specific parts. Once these parts are designed, the rest of the design can be derived from and adapted to them.
