Artificial intelligenceArtificial Intelligence (AI) is a growing focus area in healthcare and other industries. There is great potential for applying AIArtificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare applications including healthcare research, pharmaceutical and clinical studies, and clinical care applications. At the same time, there are many ethical challenges when implementing AI in healthcare. In this chapter, an overview of the definition of AI is provided and the important ethical challenges that should be considered. We also provide two examples of applying AI to improving processes in an Emergency Department to reduce length of stayLength of stay, and reducing the turnaround time and improving on-time starts in the operating room. We use a value stream mapValue stream map and a process architecture mapProcess Architecture Map (PAM) with value analysisValue analysis as the foundational data and tools provided to the AI generative tool to evaluate and identify improvements for the processes. We demonstrate where AI excels, the risks of applying AI and how the process analyst should engage with the AI tools to ensure positive operational outcomes.
