While considerable progress has been made in many areas of digital support for pharmacy and medicines, the optimisation of systems to support current and emerging practice is an ongoing task. This chapter describes how systems for digital medicines may be integrated to achieve optimum clinical workflow, and indicates some of the risks of this. The chapter highlights a number of emerging areas where both new technologies and new practices will have implications for the pharmacy profession. These include the use of devices and wearables, artificial intelligence, support for pharmacogenomic medicine and telecare/telemedicine. The chapter also discusses some of the issues relating to professional engagement and digital capabilities that will need to be addressed to enable the pharmacy workforce to be effective in a fully digital healthcare service.
