Insect Cell Cultures as Platforms for the Study of Insect Vectors’ Physiology and Vector–Phytoplasma Interactions
摘要
Insect cell cultures are a useful tool to study cell biology and physiology, metabolic pathways, pathogen infection, and their transmission by insect vectors, as well as cellular immune responses. Specifically, cell cultures of phytoplasma vectors offer a controlled environment to investigate vector–pathogen interactions at the cellular level. Furthermore, the effects of phytoplasmas on vector physiology and biology can be analyzed, promoting understanding of vector competence and thus supporting the development of targeted strategies for controlling these vectors. This chapter describes optimized protocols for the establishment and maintenance of both primary cell culture and cell lines.
