Molecular Identification of Reishi Mushroom: Ganoderma lingzhi
摘要
Reishi, also known as lingzhi (in Chinese), is a famous medicinal fungus that plays an important role in traditional Chinese medicine. It has a long medicinal history of more than 2000 years and is believed to be closely related to longevity and vitality. Modern research has proved that reishi contains polysaccharides, triterpenoids, and other active substances, with pharmacological effects of anti-aging, anti-tumor, and immune regulation. Reishi has a complex taxonomy, with more than 250 species that have been found worldwide. Therefore, the taxonomic identification of this kind of mushroom is very important. The Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) sequence of fungal rDNA has more variation and rich diversity, which can be used as the basis for the classification and identification of large fungi. Therefore, the purpose of species identification can be achieved by analyzing the DNA sequence of the fungal rDNA ITS region and comparing it with the species DNA sequence database. This chapter introduces the principle, material, method, and matters needing attention of ITS sequence analysis for taxonomic identification of Ganoderma lingzhi.
