Pollen Cryopreservation of Spathiphyllum wallissi Regel
摘要
Spathiphyllum wallissi is known as peace lily belonging to the family Araceae. It has a white flower and dark green leaves. Peace lily is mainly popular as an indoor house plant. It is basically considered as an ornamental plant. The air purifying qualities are making it a home décor. The pollens are small and found in the spadix. It has low allergic potential and can be easily handled in laboratory. The cryopreservation of pollens are very relevant in this scenario. The in vitro germination of pollen grains are carried out in B & K medium supplimented with 15% sucrose. Germinated pollens are stained using Alexander's stain, and the percent of germination was determined. The pollen cryopreservation was carried out using liquid nitrogen at −196 °C for long term storage. This method is higly useful to preserve the pollen grains for future uses like conservation of endangered species, improving the breeding qualities, and to arise the hybrid varieties.
