Essential oil is the key component of value in aromatic plants, and has found a wide range of applications in the fragrance and flavor industries. It is an essential part of the cosmetics industries as well owing to their use in different cosmeceutical products. However, the process of obtaining essential oils from the plant material is a precise and tedious operation. Owing to the volatile nature of essential oils, optimal care is needed in the entire process of extraction, as well as during storage. Optimal temperature, suitable solvent, and compatible extraction technique play pivotal roles in getting the best-quality essential oils. This chapter summarizes the combined effect of microwave- and ultrasound-assisted hydrodistillation techniques to obtain essential oils from different plant sources. The machine specifications, operational conditions, critical factors to be taken care of during the extraction process, and specific notes on the tips and tricks to be followed during extraction are discussed in detail.
