Magnetic resonance imaging/spectroscopy (MRI/S) is a noninvasive technology used extensively in metabolic research. MRS is used to measure concentrations of specific metabolites, often in specific dynamic processes. MRI provides real-time anatomical and functional imaging capabilities with high spatial resolution. Here, we discuss how MR can be utilized for metabolic flux analysis (MFA) in cells and perfused organs, to study real-time metabolism in ex vivo perfused organs, and to examine in vivo metabolism using perdeuterated substrates with deuterium metabolic imaging and spectroscopy.

摘要
