Gold Nanoparticle-Based Loop-Mediated Isothermal Amplification for Rapid, Low-Cost, and Simple Detection of Salmonella in Coffee and Cream

The critical public health risk caused by Salmonella necessitates the need for efficient detection methods. Conventional techniques based on plate counting and real-time polymerase chain reaction are time-consuming, costly, and labor-intensive, thus mainly performed in centralized laboratories. To meet the emerging need for decentralized/on-site testing, here we describe a rapid, low-cost, and simple method for Salmonella detection in coffee and cream by using gold nanoparticle-based loop-mediated isothermal amplification.
