Adenovirus is transmitted through food with lower impact in humans. It is considered as a cause of foodborne disease in humans. Following an 8–10-day incubation period, symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, and fever appear and persist for 7–8 days. The virus does not start to shed until 7–14 days after infection. There are no case reports of viruses being clearly transmitted through food. Adenoviruses can be transmitted by direct contact between individuals, by sneezing and coughing, by touching contaminated surfaces, or through the fecal-oral route. Transmission of adenoviruses can happen in water. Analytical techniques that can shorten turnaround times while preserving sensitivity and specificity can be used to control risk. Here, we discuss innovative methods for detecting adenoviruses, like the LAMP method, that shorten the time required for a response and may lower the likelihood of foodborne outbreaks.
