Robotic biopsy, despite initial concerns about its cost and limitations, has progressively shown comparable accuracy to frame-based biopsies. It offers several advantages, including a favorable safety profile with lower complication rates compared to traditional stereotactic biopsies, either frame-based or frameless. Moreover, robotic systems are able to exploit advanced intraoperative imaging techniques such as metabolic imaging and/or fluorescence. This integration allows for real-time visualization and improved tumor delineation, resulting in more precise surgical outcomes and accurate diagnoses. However, many challenges do exist: (1) firstly, the learning curve associated with mastering robotic systems is quite steep; (2) secondly, the upfront and ongoing costs of acquiring and maintaining robotic systems could represent a problematic increased NHS systems burden especially for low- and middle-income countries. Despite these challenges, robotic biopsy is emerging as a crucial component of stereotactic procedures due to its precision and enhanced surgical experience for both surgeons and patients.
