In this Chapter we look at the hardware needed to capture photographs of galaxies. We begin with a discussion of telescope mounts, the moving machinery necessary to make your telescope track the apparent motion of the heavens. The various types of telescope are then discussed. There is no such thing as an ideal telescope design: they all require design compromises. The telescopes are analysed in terms of their suitability for photographing galaxies. Next comes a discussion of cameras, including both general purpose and specialist astronomy models. Following an account of methods of focusing and collimating telescopes, the software needed to capture and save the images generated in the cameras is discussed. Finally some guidance is given about how to find galaxies; and how to look after yourself if you are outside at night for several hours capturing data.

摘要
