The diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease requires evidence of amyloid deposition in the brain. Amyloid positron emission tomography is very useful for this purpose, and its clinical importance has increased with the approval of disease-modifying drugs. The diagnosis of amyloid positivity is based on visual assessment, but small amounts of amyloid deposition are often challenging to diagnose. Quantitative assessment methods have been developed to aid in this visual diagnosis, and the Centiloid scale, a 100-point scale representing amyloid deposition regardless of the type of amyloid tracer used or the reference site required for quantification, is becoming the standard. Several software packages have also been developed to quantify amyloid deposition.
