Toxin-producing gram-positive bacteria cause emerging and life-threatening infections in people worldwide. To reduce morbidity, rapid detection and appropriate therapy of those toxins are highly required. The function of a cell or bacterium relies on proteins; it occurs to quickly identify specific proteins associated with specific functions. Bacterial toxicity or viability would provide more detailed information than nucleic acid-based identification methods. Mass spectrophotometry has the potential to become a biosensor with many possible applications and direct examination of whole bacterial cells without needs for much sample processing. MALDI and electrospray mass spectrometry is now a mature technology, extremely fast and precise identification of organic molecules. MALDI requires ultraviolet absorbing matrix that is mixed with the analyte resulting in co-crystallization matrix analytes where ESI processes the protein in a liquid phase by charging and fragmentation of particles and measured by the mass spectrophotometer. In this study we will discuss about that.
