Appropriate and thorough characterization of the nonhuman primate (NHP) model of Marburg virus is critical to evaluating the impact that interventional therapies have on tissue changes and the pathogenesis of disease. Gross and histopathologic evaluation of tissues is a critical component to understanding the pathogenesis of viral infection and the impact of interventional therapies on NHP models.

Nonhuman primates serve as a critical model for vaccine development and therapeutic intervention testing for filoviruses, including Marburg virus.
