The USDA Integrated Pathogen Modeling Program (IPMP) and Pathogen Modeling Program (PMP)

The USDA Integrated Pathogen Modeling Program (IPMP) is a family of software tools developed for data analysis in predictive microbiology. It includes IPMP and IPMP Global Fit. These products are specifically developed for inverse analysis, estimating model (kinetic) parameters, such as lag time, growth rate, and D-value, from experimentally observed growth or survival curves, without the need of programming. IPMP integrates advanced data analysis algorithms with user-friendly interfaces, visually guiding the users step by step to select proper models and initial guess values, which is essential for performing nonlinear regression. IPMP is suitable for single curves of primary or secondary models, while the IPMP Global Fit performs one-step analysis of integrated primary and secondary models to minimize the error globally. The USDA Pathogen Modeling Program (PMP), on the other hand, is another family of products developed for direct analysis, or numerical prediction, of bacterial growth or survival in foods, based on available kinetic parameters of foodborne pathogens. This product comes in two types: the desktop application based on the Microsoft Windows Dot Net environment and the USDA PMP Online. Both products serve different needs of predictive modeling.
