摘要

Postbiotics are biologically active compounds with several uses that are created during fermentation in a matrix. They can be utilized to enhance health. Probiotics are widely understood to be live microorganisms that, when ingested in food in the proper amount, improve the host’s health. In probiotics, lactic acid bacteria are more helpful when compared to other bacteria. More than 100–1000 different microbial species can be found in the human gut, which also has a significant impact on host health by altering the internal environment of the host. Probiotic supplementation has shown promising results for a number of enteric pathogens due to their exceptional ability to compete with pathogenic microbes to isolate pathogens, enhance adhesion sites, and help regulate and control hosts’ immune homeostasis by provoking the activation of specific genes of host intestinal tract both inside and outside. The probiotic strain Lactobacillus fermentum inhibits typhoid fever, which is the causative agent of Salmonella typhi with the combination of ofloxacin. This chapter explains the protocol for developing the typhoid drug. The L. fermentum strain is freeze-dried and added with the ofloxacin, which enhances the drug with more effectiveness against causative agents.
