Semen Braude is one of the pioneering radio astronomers and radio physicists of the twentieth century and one of the founders of low-frequency radio astronomy and radio oceanography, in particular in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). His talent as experimenter and theorist, his ideas and the ability to realize them, and his persistence, character, and perspective on the research field were highly appreciated and led to several early advances in radio astronomy. Starting in 1957, Braude and his team developed several sophisticated decameter-wavelength radio telescopes, including the UTR-2 (Ukrainian T-shaped decameter radio telescope, still the largest in the world) as well as the first decameter Very Long Baseline Interferometer (VLBI) network, URAN (Ukrainian Radio interferometers of the Academy of Nauk). This allowed him to obtain important pioneering results on the low-frequency radio emission of objects in the solar system, the Milky Way, and the larger universe (90th anniversary of S. Ya Braude 2001; Graham-Smith 2005; Megn 1981; Pavlenko et al. 2006; Usikov and Shestopalov 1975; Vavilova et al. 2014).
