Charles Vernon Boys was a British experimental physicist who invented the fused quartz fiber torsion balance. He used this to measure the Newtonian constant of gravitation to a substantially greater accuracy than Cavendish and also to study infrared radiation from the Moon and set limits on the infrared radiation from the brightest stars.
