Dopita, Michael A.

Michael (“Mike”) Dopita was an Australian astronomer who made numerous contributions to atomic and interstellar astrophysics, using both theoretical and observational techniques, ground-based, and space-based. His research interests spanned astrophysical plasmas, star formation in galaxies, planetary nebulae, supernova remnants, and active galaxies. He contributed to the design of the final camera for the Hubble Space Telescope, and designed an Integral Field Spectrograph for the Australian National University’s Siding Spring Observatory.
