American astronomer John Ellsworth Merrill will ever be associated with Henry Norris Russell, with whom he elaborated and summarized the Russell-Merrill method in a widely studied monograph and for which he supervised and produced the associated tables and nomographs to aid in the determination of the elements of eclipsing binary systems.
