The aim of the chapter is to show how to describe the stress-induced inhibition of growth and how a misperception of the compression state of the tissue and, therefore, an improper functioning of the control mechanism known as contact inhibition of growth can lead to pathological growth. This phenomenon gives rise to a clonal advantage over other neighbouring cells, eventually leading to the replacement of the healthy tissue with the formation of tumour lesions.
