The biocatalytic transformation has garnered increasing attention in the realm of green chemical synthesis due to the wide range of enzymes available, their high catalytic activities and specificities, as well as the mild reaction conditions. The concept of utilizing light energy in chemical synthesis by combining photocatalysis and biocatalysis, known as photobiocatalysis, presents a promising opportunity to further enhance the sustainability of the process. Additionally, the integration of both approaches opens up possibilities to unlock new synthetic reactivities. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the state-of-the-art advances in photobiocatalysis toward synthesis and functionalization of heterocyclic compounds.
