DBP Formation and Control in Water Reuse

DBP formation in water reuse treatment may follow trends that do not necessarily follow what is commonly observed in drinking water treatment. This is because organic precursors in treated wastewater can exhibit different characteristics than organics found in nature, and also the treatment/oxidation methods employed in water reuse may be different – typically more powerful – such as ozonation or advanced oxidation. As more parts of the world experience water stress due to increased urbanization and climate change, using recycled wastewater as a source of drinking water or grey water will become increasingly common. This chapter highlights current knowledge about DBP formation in this context.
