Climate Change, Drought, and Water Scarcity in the MENA Region
摘要
The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is one of the world’s hotspots for water scarcity caused by both climate change and human activities. Water scarcity problems are much more acute in some MENA regions with predominantly arid climates. Long-term hydro-climatic projections for the region point to worsening the water scarcity situation. A comprehensive assessment of the causes and consequences of water scarcity can be effective in better understanding the issue and adopting appropriate strategies to promote community adaptation. Accordingly, this chapter provides a wide-ranging assessment of the water scarcity situation in the MENA region by reviewing the literature and using freely available data and long-term remote sensing products.
