摘要

This chapter aims to bring attention to the origins of air pollution. Understanding the sources of air pollution is vital for grasping the intricate connections between human actions, natural occurrences, and environmental elements that contribute to poor air quality. Recognizing the origins, patterns, and effects of different air pollutants that harm air quality is essential for creating effective approaches to reduce pollution and safeguard public health, the environment, and ecosystems. The benefits of pinpointing air pollution sources include quantifying pollutants, assessing health hazards, protecting vulnerable groups, addressing climate change, preserving ecosystems, shaping policy choices, fostering technological advancements, increasing public awareness, and striving toward sustainable development objectives. This chapter will provide a comprehensive comprehension of the problems and suggest sustainable solutions to address them. Air pollutants mainly originate from various natural and anthropogenic sources. Natural events such as wildfires, volcanic eruptions, dust storms, and biogenic emissions from vegetation and soil can release large amounts of particulate matter, gases, and aerosols into the atmosphere. However, anthropogenic sources are the primary contributors to air pollution and encompass a wide range of activities such as transportation, agricultural activities, industrial and household chemicals, construction and demolition, energy production, and mining. The pollutants from these sources have negative social, economic, and environmental effects.
