Broadening Wastewater Monitoring of SARS-CoV-2 RNA

This chapter makes an argument for strengthening participation in wastewater surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 RNA. It explains the importance of understanding the sewershed and the governance of it, to strengthen surveillance efforts for public health. The chapter describes examples of sewersheds in terms of size and infrastructure and provides examples of communities, universities, and businesses in monitoring efforts. It also introduces several joint ventures between government, university, and community. It outlines the challenges of broadening participation in underdeveloped or fragmentary infrastructure settings.
