COVID-19 Management in the Northeastern India

The COVID-19 pandemic was one of the greatest crises of the modern era, yet its management has received disproportionate or unequal responses across the world. Some of the regions like South Asia, due to higher population density, weaker economies, and absence of proper regulatory frameworks, took relatively longer to catch up to the developed nations. India as a strong economy with a dense population in the South Asian region was thrown into the spotlight as it suffered a high mortality during the pandemic, yet it was able to overcome the debacle due to its government policies, assistance of private and non-governmental stakeholders, and people participation. Although a number of studies have been conducted on the model of COVID-19 control and management in the country, yet not much is known about the remote northeastern part of India due to lack of suitable literature. Therefore, the current work was conceptualized to present a concise report on the management practice and measures taken in NE India in controlling the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. Here we used a wide range of media from scientific journals to news reports and blogs in the absence of adequate information to paint a picture which could help not only researchers and health workers but also policy makers and the general population in forming informed decisions and understanding the status and shortcomings with respect to COVID-19 management in the NE states of India.
