Practices of APFNet Project Activities in Addressing Climate Change

Forests comprise the main body of the terrestrial ecosystem. Deforestation and forest degradation can result in global warming via the resulting concentration rise of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. In the same way, greenhouse gas emissions can be slowed through forest restoration and sustainable management. The Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management and Rehabilitation (APFNet) project is committed to helping the Asia-Pacific region by promoting and improving sustainable forest management and forest rehabilitation. Here, we discuss the interrelationship between forests and climate change and introduce the practice and achievements of APFNet in the hilly region of southern China. Then, we establish that carrying out the project activities and achieving the objectives necessitate conducting a baseline survey, which considers the willingness of stakeholders before making a scientific and operable plan by PRA and enhances information sharing. Finally, we conclude that these steps can also promote sustainable forest management, enhance forest carbon stocks and income for farmers, as well as expand the impact of the project.
